New Delhi – India and South Africa convened the 5th Joint Working Group (JWG) on Agriculture virtually on August 26, 2025, marking a significant stride in their agricultural collaboration. The meeting was co-chaired by Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, and Thapsana Molepo, Acting Director, International Trade Promotion, South Africa.

India highlighted its advancements in digital farming tools, climate-resilient agricultural practices, risk mitigation strategies, and farmer-focused credit schemes.

In response, South Africa expressed keen interest in enhancing cooperation in extension services, capacity building, and the seed sector.

Both parties explored deeper collaboration between ICAR and ARC, focusing on joint research initiatives, knowledge sharing, upskilling, and improving market access.

This meeting is viewed as a milestone that could pave the way for more sustainable, technology-driven, and inclusive agricultural partnerships between the two nations.
