Solapur District Seeks ₹393 Crore Aid After Natural Disasters
Following severe natural disasters in September, Solapur district officials estimate damages worth ₹393.79 crore. Over 10.20 lakh acres of farmland have been affected, leaving thousands of farmers in distress and prompting urgent calls for state relief.
Solapur district in Maharashtra has reported devastating losses in the wake of recent natural disasters, with officials estimating damages worth ₹393.79 crore. Heavy rains, floods, and localized storms in September have left thousands of acres of farmland submerged or destroyed, creating widespread distress among farming families. The administration has now sought urgent financial aid from the state government to support affected communities.
According to district authorities, more than 10.20 lakh acres of farmland have been directly impacted. Crops such as soybean, maize, pulses, sugarcane, and fodder have suffered extensive damage, forcing many farmers to face uncertain futures. With agriculture being the backbone of Solapur’s economy, the losses are not only personal but also a blow to the district’s overall livelihood and rural economy.
Farmers in several talukas of Solapur have complained of total crop destruction, leaving them unable to repay loans or prepare for the upcoming rabi season. Many have also lost cattle fodder and vital resources needed for daily sustenance. The district officials have stressed that without quick intervention and adequate compensation, the agrarian crisis in Solapur could deepen further.
Relief proposals have already been sent to the state government under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) guidelines. The ₹393.79 crore package includes direct farmer compensation, input subsidies, and rehabilitation measures for families worst hit. Officials have also suggested immediate distribution of seeds and fertilizers for re-sowing, to prevent long-term economic distress.
State authorities have assured that they are reviewing the proposal and will take swift action. With farmer suicides and debt-related issues already alarming in Maharashtra, the Solapur situation adds urgency for timely relief. Experts emphasize that beyond short-term aid, there is a need to strengthen crop insurance, irrigation infrastructure, and disaster preparedness to safeguard rural communities against recurring natural calamities.
