Empowering Farmers: Hinganghat APMC to Provide 1,000 Seed Drills at 50% Subsidy to Tackle Labor Shortage
In a proactive move to reduce production costs and promote mechanization, the Hinganghat Market Committee (Wardha) has announced a 50% subsidy on seed drills for local farmers. The scheme aims to benefit 1,000 farmers, prioritizing small and marginal landowners to ensure timely sowing of crops like soybean, cotton, and pulses.
Facing acute labor shortages and rising daily wages, the Shri Sant Gadge Baba Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) in Hinganghat, Wardha district, has launched a significant mechanization drive as of April 7, 2026. Under the leadership of Chairman Adv. Sudhir Kothari, the committee has decided to provide high-quality seed drills from reputed brands to 1,000 local farmers at a 50% subsidized rate. This initiative is designed to help farmers complete their sowing operations accurately and on time, which is critical for maintaining crop yields amidst unpredictable weather patterns.
The primary goal of this scheme is to reduce the overall "cost of cultivation" for the farming community. By owning a seed drill, farmers can move away from their heavy dependence on manual labor, which has become both expensive and scarce. These modern machines are versatile and can be used for the precise sowing of a wide range of crops including cotton, soybean, pigeon pea (tur), gram, wheat, moong, and sesame. This precision not only saves expensive seeds but also ensures uniform germination and growth.
To ensure that the benefits reach those who need it most, the APMC is prioritizing small and marginal farmers. The planning involves providing one machine per family, with the distribution taking place in phases. The application process has already commenced on April 2, 2026, and will remain open until the end of the month. Interested farmers are required to submit essential documents including their 7/12 extract, Aadhaar card, Ration card, and receipts showing previous sales of agricultural produce at the Hinganghat market yard.
Once the application window closes, the committee will scrutinize the documents to select eligible beneficiaries. This move by the Hinganghat APMC is being hailed as a model for other market committees in Maharashtra. By reinvesting market fees (cess) directly into farm machinery for its members, the committee is ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability in the region. For the farmers of Wardha, this 50% subsidy offers a practical solution to modernize their traditional farming methods and boost their overall profitability in the upcoming Kharif and Rabi seasons.
