Shah: Centre will extend flood relief, have sought report on losses from state

In a public rally at Ahilyanagar district, Union Home Minister Amit Shah pledged that the Centre would extend comprehensive relief and support to Maharashtra’s farmers who were severely affected by recent flooding. He emphasized that as soon as the state forwards a detailed assessment of damage, the central government will act without delay.

Shah noted that over 60 lakh hectares of agricultural land have been damaged due to excess rainfall and flooding. This encompasses standing crops, soil erosion, and damage to agricultural infrastructure. The magnitude of loss underscores the scale of intervention required.

As part of the relief measures already underway, the state had provided ₹10,000 cash assistance to affected families, 35 kg of food grains, and granted exemptions on land tax, school fees, and relaxed KYC norms. Shah said these steps are precursors to larger central aid packages.

In addition to flood relief, Shah inaugurated India’s first cooperative multi-feed Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant and a potash granule production unit at the Kopargaon sugar mill, as part of efforts to support agrarian and cooperative industries.

Shah also called for a coordinated approach between central and state authorities to fast-track damage assessments, streamline fund disbursement, and ensure affected farmers do not suffer further delays. He assured full cooperation from the Centre and urged the Maharashtra government to compile the damage report quickly.
